We speak your donors' language.
Knowing why changes everything.
We combine behavioral data with psychographic insight to identify donor motivation — at scale. Knowing what motivates your donors tells you what matters to them. We identify distinct donor motivation profiles so your appeals are more targeted, relevant, and human — built to increase giving and expand your impact.
This brings the kind of personalization once reserved for major donors to your broader donor base.
This data rarely explains WHY donors give.
Most tools give you RFM. We give you motivation.
We move beyond giving history and uncover the psychographic drivers behind your donors' behavior. Because when you understand why someone gives, you can give them a reason to give again.
We translate motivation patterns into messaging that feels relevant, human, and donor-centered — whether you're reaching 50 major donors or 50,000 annual fund members.
Our donor insight process increases response rates, retention, and giving — with direct donor communications that build meaning, not pressure. No gimmicks. No guilt. Just genuine connection that moves people to act.
Every engagement begins with a conversation. Pricing is tailored to your organization's size, database complexity, and ambition.
Phase One plus the work most consulting firms never do. We identify the psychographic motivation behind your donors' giving patterns — building segments defined not just by what they do, but by why they do it. Then we translate those segments into a Message Architecture your team can use every day.

Most consultants will analyze your giving data. They'll tell you how much came in, from which segments, and when. That's useful — but it's incomplete.
Very few will tell you what actually prompted your donors to give. And without that, how do you build a real relationship?
Donors are sending signals. They give to certain causes, respond to certain stories, connect with certain values. We help you hear what they're saying — and give you the insight to meet them where they are.

Our donor motivation analysis uses a privacy-first, local-analysis approach — applying AI for insight generation without ever exposing donor data to public or model-training AI systems.
All donor data remains the sole property of your organization at all times. It is never sold, shared, or reused for any purpose beyond your contracted analysis.
Donor information is never submitted to consumer AI platforms and is never used to train, fine-tune, or improve third-party AI models. Period.
We apply data minimization principles — only the fields required for analysis are processed. Personally identifiable information is removed or masked wherever possible.
Data is retained only for the duration required to complete the analysis and deliver results. When the work is done, the data is gone.
Our primary analysis is performed in secure, access-controlled environments — not in open or consumer-facing AI systems. We use de-identified or aggregated data structures to evaluate motivation patterns. AI supports interpretation and pattern recognition; human expertise governs every conclusion.
Only authorized individuals involved in your analysis can access your data. Every step is documented and reproducible.
Founder, Donor Insights Lab
I bring 25 years of front-line fundraising experience to my work with Donor Insights Lab — raising philanthropic gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations for higher education, social services, cultural organizations, and environmental causes.
While Director of Development and Marketing at Riveredge Nature Center, we went beyond philanthropy. Approaching the center's 45th anniversary, we dove deep to find the driving motivators for our audiences, and refreshed the brand to embrace the "Riveredge Kid" in everyone. With new adventure programs, school partnerships, events, and extended outreach to farmers and neighbors, we doubled membership and increased earned revenue by 250% in eight years.
At Marquette, working closely with deans and university leadership, my team secured three gifts of $1,000,000 — one from Northwestern Mutual for the new Eckstein Hall law school building, one from the Goizueta Foundation for Hispanic student scholarships, and one from the Falk Medical Research Trust for biomedical research.
Every great fundraiser knows the real question isn't how much a donor gives — it's why. So, I spent the last year at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management taking classes in behavioral economics, narrative design, consumer psychology, and artificial intelligence. Donor Insights Lab is the result.
We uncover what motivates your donors — then help you apply that knowledge to every campaign, appeal, and stewardship touchpoint that follows. By helping you understand what motivates your donors, you are better equipped to speak their donors' language.
The result is real insight, stronger relationships, and joyful giving.

Riveredge Nature Center introduced me to Aldo Leopold — the father of wildlife ecology and modern conservation. Riveredge's first naturalist, Andy Larsen, taught many of us in Southeastern Wisconsin that "everything is connected to everything." Enjoy the prairie.
